Ritz-Carlton veteran Cristiano Buono was named general manager of The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Miami Beach, a luxury condo project that’s slated to open soon in Mid-Miami Beach. Lionheart Capital is the developer.

Buono’s residential and hotel management experience includes positions at The Ritz-Carlton Club, Aspen Highlands, The Ritz-Carlton Abama, Golf & Spa Resort in Tenerife, Canary Islands, and Marriott International’s EDITION Hotels.

The Miami Beach development will have 111 condo residences and 15 single-family villas, gardens, pools and 36 private boat slips. Shared amenities will include an art studio, a rooftop pool deck with private cabanas and a restaurant, a waterfront bar and social room, pet grooming facilities, indoor and outdoor yoga studios, a meditation garden and car wash facilities. Buono will focus on implementing and managing the amenities and owner engagement, according to a press release.

Q&A With Cristiano Buono

Q: Having supported several opening experiences and responsible for quality of the operations for each of the properties, as GM of The Ritz- Carlton Residences, Miami Beach, briefly describe what your roles & responsibilities will entail.

It is difficult for me to describe my role with words like duties, responsibility. I like to describe my role in saying that I will have the pleasure and honor to lead, every day, a high performing and talented group of Ladies and Gentlemen, inspiring them to always honor The Ritz-Carlton culture and Gold Standards.

Q: How will your working experiences, background and expertise benefit the day-to-day operations and residents at The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Miami Beach?

Coming from an Operations background, I know that my place is only one, “with the people surrounded by people”. My hands-on approach and passion for luxury hospitality have always driven me and my teams to outstanding levels of service and owner engagement.

Q: You have a long stand relationship and background with The Ritz-Carlton brand. What attracted you to The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Miami Beach? Is this the first time you are working with a residential property? Describe how this will differentiate from your previous experiences and what you are looking forward to as you move and become permanently based in Miami.

This is not my first role in residential property management. I gained valuable residential experience as Director of Operations at The Ritz-Carlton Club, Aspen Highlands. Before joining our team in Aspen, I was the Executive Assistant Manager of Rooms at The Ritz-Carlton, Abama in Tenerife, Spain. Both experiences are an added value to my role as General Manager at The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Miami Beach. As for why I was drawn to this property, I was truly captured by the design of the project, the fact that this was an opening, as well as the unique location of Miami Beach. It will be great to have the opportunity to build strong relationships with owners and their families. Certainly, I look forward to coming back to a resort setting and the beautiful Florida climate.

Q: Being GM of a massive property is a big undertaking. As the only over seven-and-a-half-acre residential property in Miami Beach, how do you plan to organize, strategize and manage the property — from opening to operations and managing to implementing long standing, hotel-style services on a day-to-day basis?

The key for success will always be our company culture, which drives a balanced approach in the way we do business. The success is determined by having consistent and equal drive and focus on owner engagement, employee engagement, and the responsible management of the homeowners’ association’s assets.

Q: Let’s talk about your previous training and courses you have taken. How will those play into strengthening team building, impacting leadership, developing, training and effectively bettering employees? From greeting and concierge services, to back of house, how does this positively affect all the residential experiences available at The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Miami Beach?

The answer to this question is in the question itself–training, training and more training! “Success is never final” and “The road to perfection is always under construction!” This is the way I believe I can build high-performing teams–by constantly investing in their growth, skills training and education. It is not as much about my training and the courses I took, it will be about the amount of time I spend training and educating our Ladies and Gentlemen on a daily basis, always!

Q: What do you believe are your strengths and how will they be effective within your role at GM at The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Miami Beach? What are you goals as GM for the property?

Through extensive travel and living in more than 10 countries, I have developed a deep understanding of working effectively with teams in may cultures. I expect Miami to be a place where many beautiful cultures come together! My goal is to make The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Miami Beach the flagship of our entire residential brand!

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?

I love spending time with my wife Marian and my son Pietro Luis. I love cooking for them, and I love traveling with them around the world. I certainly like to take care of myself. I enjoy working out every day. It helps me find that perfect physical and mental balance.
