Mike Piazza Scores A Home Base At The Ritz-Carlton Residences Miami Beach

September 21, 2019

As a prodigious hitter, Hall of Famer Mike Piazza didn’t walk much during his 16-year baseball career. But recently, the retired superstar wandered unannounced into The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Miami Beach and dropped $6 million-plus on a new luxury home, guest suite and large on-site storage unit. Just like that—as easy as a tossed bat after one of his titanic home runs. As for the lucky sales broker—score!

Piazza purchased the three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom residence for $5.6 million (below the $5.8 million list price) with the additional guest suite listed at $580,000, as well as a storage unit that can house his treasured memorabilia and awards—including his National League Rookie of the Year and 12 Louisville Slugger trophies for the best offensive player at the catcher position.

Piazza, a 12-time All-Star catcher for the Dodgers, Mets, Padres and A’s, earned approximately $120 million during his playing days. Not bad for a 62nd round draft pick. Now he’s cashing in on that success.

As a walk-in, Piazza and his wife Alicia chose a “flow-through residence” with 3,132 square feet of outdoor space overlooking Surprise Lake and Biscayne Bay. The residence spans 3,838 square feet, featuring a great room, family room, den and a private elevator.

Douglas Elliman’s Viviana Junc brokered the luxury real estate transaction, via the firm’s marketing division which handles sales at The Ritz-Carlton Miami Beach Residences.

“We are an international family living abroad—Miami Beach as our U.S. base,” says Piazza. “We lived on Sunset Island for about 12 years, and feel we are ready to embrace a more service-orientated lifestyle. We are looking forward to the ‘lock-up-and-go’ freedom.

“The Ritz Carlton Residences Miami Beach was the first building to offer such luxurious amenities in a boutique building that is something between a home and condo [with] gracious outdoor space and beautiful views. We are very excited about this next chapter in our lives.”

The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Miami Beach is a collection of 111 luxury condos and 15 stand-alone villas designed by Italian architect Piero Lissoni—with white-glove service by The Ritz-Carlton. Private. The waterfront residences range from $2 million to $40 million.

Amenities include a private marina with 36 boat slips, a captained day yacht, and navigable marine helipad. For wellness aficionados, the property boasts a meditation garden, fitness center, open-air yoga studios, half-acre rooftop pool deck (with private cabanas), and indoor-outdoor spa (with saunas).

Resident gourmands have access to a gourmet restaurant, food forest, waterfront bar, and medical concierge with “South Beach Diet” author Arthur Agatston. Socially, residents can enjoy a club room, social room, private screening cinema, residential art studio and sharing room, pet grooming facilities, and carwash service.
